We design and build forest school sites, working with you to realise your vision and bring the designs to reality.
Forest schools – empowering children
This is a key educational concept for all ages. Based on a Scandinavian model of spending time in a forest or natural garden setting. Activities include: whittling sticks, building dens, observing the natural world, lighting fires and cooking food on open fires etc. The concept allows participants to make their own risk assessments and it can have a hugely positive impact on academic learning. See Jack Hunt Secondary’s Forest School Research.
Leaves of Green Director, Guy Redmond, was part of a team that introduced forest schools to the UK in 1997, and has been advising and designing dedicated settings since then.
Benefits for forest schools:
- Most appropriately sited settings
- All year round mud free access
- Range of fire circle seating options
- Planting for shade, shelter and winter structure
- Essential trees for forest school activities
- All weather timber shelters and canopies
- Ease of supervision
- Perfect firewood and firewood storage
“The forest school movement has a philosophy of child-led learning, with a focus on all the senses. The aim is to foster rich learning experiences, ecological literacy, and healthy living by connecting children to nature.
In Britain, the forest school has been defined as “an inspirational process that offers children, young people and adults regular opportunities to achieve, and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland environment”.

Fire gardens
The fire circle is the heart of activities, bringing groups together to participate and share experiences. The fire circle should be welcoming, comfortable and practical. Firewood needs to be cut small and kept dry. We have a range of options, and can advise on woodburners and cob oven installation too.
Activities
Our speciality is to create the multifunctional space for your preferred activities to take place. We can advise and install a range of recycled and sustainable surfacing options, including accessible surfaces for wheeled vehicles. We only use products which are sourced and made in Britain.
Our Process
A paragraph about our process will go here, mention design and design & build stages here. Using an iterative process, we work with you to design and build multifunctional spaces.
