Trees and Planting

We advise, design, supply and plant trees to enhance biodiversity, encourage positive lifelong associations with Nature, and make your site unique.

Trees and planting are the essence of all landscaping projects. For that reason, all our projects specify and include appropriate planting designs tailored to low maintenance inputs. We advise on the selection and positioning of trees, how to source and plant healthy specimens, and how to enhance biodiversity. Above all, it is the trees, planting and biodiversity following planting that ensures a site will mature and transform into an oasis, offering:

  • Summer shade and winter shelter
  • A natural, green and beautiful backdrop
  • Seasonal beauty, avenues & orchards
  • Erosion control, flood mitigation, etc.
  • Wildlife habitat and abundance of life
  • Endless play and learning opportunities
  • Low maintenance solutions
  • Techniques and strategies to fast track woodland evolution
  • Bounceback bomb proof planting!

Our tree planting portfolio stretches back 25 years.  As a result, we have many testimonials. In fact, the positive feedback resulting from these projects is overwhelming.

Diverse planting species and diverse planting strategies

We help you with understanding the type of planting required.  Some schemes demand close native planting for habitat; others want to emphasise the character of the individual trees.  Your site may require wind shelter; or a planting design which emphasises seasonal changes.  It is the placement of trees that make sites unique and special.

In the example below, we planted cedars, firs, birches & magnolias at final spacings, arbotetum style.  The following picture is of the same view 17 years later.  The original timber shelters have disappeared but the planting has taken off developing the sense of place, and providing endless natural play and learning opportunities.

Biodiversity

Schools, parks and parish council green space are the perfect places to consider corridors and networks for wildlife.  Such biodiverse schemes encourage seasonal awareness, exploration, interest and a wide variety of fruits and other free gifts.  Our experience of designing and planting tree schemes and green backdrops which require little maintenance is extensive.  We recommend that all tree plantings include a section of wilderness to be left undisturbed.

Tree planting in schools…

“Every child in our school was involved in the digging, planting and creation of the area – a memory that will last for years to come….seeing our children work together, collaborate & support each other….was a lovely sight but also an opportunity to further strengthen our school values of teamwork, resilience and respect.”

Chris Burton, head, St Lukes, Redditch 2024

Schools Out!

The exhilaration of being outdoors inspires spontaneity of movement and unexpected role play – essentially natural play. Children gather strong affection for nature by spending time in it and becoming familiar with its patterns. Indeed, this gentle and profound awakening to the cosmos appears to be far more effective than receiving environmental facts about the earth or delivering lectures on climate change.

“These people have learned not from books, but in the fields, in the wood, on the river bank. Their teachers have been the birds themselves, when they sang to them, the sun when it left a glow of crimson behind it at setting, the very trees, and wild herbs.”

- Anton Chekhov
