Forest School Design and Build

Whether you have a woodland, a specific area, or an empty field, we can help you establish and enhance your forest school area.

By and large, a successful forest school design and build will consider:

  • all year round accessibility
  • fireside circle & dry storage for firewood
  • risk taking activities – den building, whittling, campfire cooking
  • space to manipulate, gather and display materials & artefacts
  • sheltering from inclement seasonal weather
  • all weather shelter and canopies
  • outdoor woodburners, cob oven features and fire baskets
  • appropriate evergreen and deciduous trees

27 years experience designing & establishing forest school sites.

We have delivered practical forest school projects to all Key Stages from early years through to sixth form.  Furthermore, we have established forest school sites across the full range of urban, suburban and rural settings. Our inspirational forest school designs and ‘design and build’ options are specified to your budget, and we work hard to make your site unique & special.

This cluttered site above, was transformed for early years forest school activities.  The design included features which emphasised strengthening gross motor skills – building upper body strength to foster skill & coordination.  Our forest schools shelter provided a fine backdrop to the whole setting.  See a range of timber structures by Leaves of Green.

In the example below, we excavated 800 sq m of asphalt to facilitiate Griffin’s ‘Forest in the City’ to a multifunctional forest school and outdoor learning environment.

“We are so happy with the site and the trees are all doing well…..We still love the space and use it every day.”

Infrastructure for Forest School Design

Follow the slides to see how we created all year round access – not only for forest school activities, but for use as a playground extension.  Accessible paths, learning environments and gathering spaces, evergreen and deciduous trees to shelter & shade….and a little help from Mother Nature…the perfect combo!  This site is now ready for further details and enhancement.
